The dictionary defines living as having life; as the condition of being alive; not dead; still in existence.
Is living just breathing? Isn't there more to this life than just existing? What does the word of God tell us about living? Can we live anyway we want? How does God want us to be living?
This Bible study is more than just the physical condition of being alive, but the manner of life that we are living.
The word of God gives us all full instruction as to how God desires us to be living. Our Great Lord God has left nothing unanswered for us, including exactly how we are to be living out our lives here on this earth, all is found in His Word.
We are to do all - everything that we say or do - in the name of our Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.
Our actions, our words, our life is to be centered in God, so that everything that we do and everything that we say, that we do ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.
This is one scripture that we should have memorized, permanently engraved in our hearts and minds, so that no matter where we are, or no matter what we are doing, we can be living our life in the way that pleases God.
God is the Creator of our life and because God is our source of living we must look to God for our instructions for living and caring for our life that He gave to us.
The Word of God gives us full instruction on how God desires us to be Living for Him.Before we begin, please read the scripture text through once before we discuss them.
In Colossians 3:1-17, God defines the what, why, who, when, where, how that we are to be living. Please open your Holy Bible and let's look at these Holy scriptures.
Who, How? The saved, because if we are risen with Christ, we are a child of God, we are saved, through faith in the risen Saviour Jesus Christ our Lord, we are risen with Christ.
Where? Christ is risen and sits in Heaven. What? We should seek those things which are above, godliness and righteousness that are of God in Heaven.
When? How? Our heart's desires are to be set on things above, the things of God. Daily we renew our faith in Christ, daily we set our affection on things above. Why? Because Christ is above and that's where our affection should be set - on things above!
Who, Why, Where, When? The saved in Christ are dead (to the things of this world with Christ), because, through salvation, we have put on Christ, we are dead to the ways and sins of this world, our life is NOW with Christ in God. We are given eternal life by Christ. We are Christ's, and Christ is God's (1 Corinthians 3:23); we are God's children through Christ (John 14:6). We become the children of God through faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26). We must have faith in Christ to save our soul, go through Christ to God, there is no other way to God the Father, except by going through His Son Christ Jesus our Lord.
Why? Because when Christ, who is our life, shall appear (returns for His own as He promised), then (the saved in Christ) we shall also appear with Him in glory, and we will be with our Lord God in Glory forevermore.
Once we see Jesus, we will never be separated from Him, we will be with Him forever. Hallelujah!!! Praise the LORD!!
What, How, When? Since we are dead to sin, like Christ, when we became saved by His blood, NOW, today, we are to purge sin completely from our lives. We are to mortify - kill all sin in our lives, put to death lust, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil, covetousness, idolatry. Why? Because the wrath of God is on the children of disobedience.
Who, when? The saved were (past tense) the children of disobedience, but that's in the past, we lived (past tense) in them , but now we live for God, not sin. When? NOW, today we put off all these, we put off sin, purge sin from our lives, keep sin from even coming out of our mouths.
How, What, Who? Because we are saved, through faith in Christ, we have put on the new man, the righteousness of God through Christ. We are saved by grace. By the grace of God, we are able to put off all sin: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication. By the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are able to live in truth and not lie to each other.
How? Because we are renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him, because we have put on Christ, and put away sin and our old sinful ways.
Why, How? Because of Christ we can live as a new man, renewed in the knowledge of God, after the image of Christ, who is the express image of God. Everything was created by Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:16-17); man was created in the image of Christ, who is the express image of God (Hebrews 1:3).
Who? All people who are saved, by grace through faith in Jesus, and who remain in the faith are in Christ. We are all in Christ who are of Christ, one body, one faith, one church, because Christ is all and Christ is in all.
Who, what? Faithful believers of Christ Jesus are the elect of God. The saved in Christ are the elect of God, if we remain in the faith. When we become saved though faith in Christ, we become holy and beloved of God the Father, through Christ.
Through continuing faith in Christ, we please God the Father; and, we are accepted into His presence, and become heirs of God (Galatians 3:29). As the faithful elect of God, we are able to put on Christ, put on the love of God, though Christ Jesus we are able to put on God's love, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another. The children of God are able to forgive one another for all things, because Christ forgave us.
What, How? As believers, we put on charity, we live with charity overflowing from our hearts through Christ.
By Christ dwelling inside of His own, we are able to put on charity. As Christ's own, we are servants of each other by the love of God. We live in charity, our bond with God through Christ, which is the bond of perfectness. Charity is enabled to us through Christ, because God is love, God is in Christ, and Christ is in us.
What, Why, Who, When, How, Where? When we let the peace of God be the ruler of our hearts, every day in our lives, we are truly living.
True living is allowing Christ to live through you, by surrendering your life to Him. True living is achieved with Christ as the Master of your life. True living is letting the God of Peace rule in our hearts, letting the peace of God rule above all else in our hearts, and direct our lives.
Why? Because we are called by God into one body of Christ.
When? Every day - by letting the peace of God rule our hearts and our lives, and every day letting the word of Christ dwell richly in us and in all wisdom of God.
What? By living in Christ - every day we can be thankful for the peace of God that rules in our hearts. We give thanks to God and the Father by Christ, because God loves us and God wants to give us His peace, which passes all earthly understanding, God wants to help us in every aspect of our lives.
How, Who, Where? If we simply let Christ dwell in us, live in us, abide in us, the Holy Spirit of God will give us all that we need. (Philippians 4:19)
What, When? Today, if we simply do what God asks of us, which is to teach each other about His precious love, if we lift each other up, encourage each other, (1 Thessalonians 5:11) edify each other through Christ with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord, we can be living to please God. (1 Thessalonians 4:1-12)
How can we be living to please God? Being the children of God, we can be living to please God, by submitting ourselves to God (James 4:7), seeking God every day in our lives (Matthew 6:33), following the ways of Christ Jesus (John 12:26), by letting the peace of God rule our hearts, and be thankful, by letting the word of Christ dwell in us, teaching, loving and forgiving each other, singing with grace in our hearts to the Lord, obeying the word of God, by doing all that we do and all that we say in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.
Can a person serve God, be living for God, without being saved?
God wants us to live in His righteousness and blessings and to receive the righteousness of God, we must obtain His salvation, through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
The saved serve God
There are many seemingly godly people who do not know God personally, who are NOT saved.
Knowing about God and knowing God personally are two different matters.
There are many "good" people in this world who are seemingly doing "good works", but do NOT know God personally, who are NOT saved.
God specifically states over and over in His scriptures, that there is nothing that we can do, NO acts we can perform, NO ceremonies, NO sacraments, NO works, NO sacrifice we can make to obtain salvation by ourselves.
Salvation is only received by whole hearted belief, continued faith in God, and a life long commitment to Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.
By grace we are saved. God saves. We are saved by grace through faith. We are the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ.
Salvation is a gift from God. As any other gift, the gift of salvation cannot be purchased, bought by money, earned through works, or purchased by any other means. If it could be purchased, it would not be a gift.
God gives us salvation when we fully believe in His Son, Jesus, which is following the will of God.
The gift of salvation is NOT gained by temporary belief, believing for awhile and then going back to an old life of sin and unbelief.
Salvation is NOT temporary belief in Jesus Christ. Salvation is received through continued faith in Christ Jesus.
Salvation is given by God to only those who endure until the end, hold onto their faith until the end, believe in God for all the days of their lives.
Enduring until the end means living a life without sin, living a godly and righteous life, obeying God, following the ways of Christ, denying ourselves, serving Jesus all the days of our lives.
We are saved only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus.
The word of God tells us that we either serve God or serve mammon, serve sin, serve the world. God says that we cannot serve God and serve the devil. God says we cannot live for Him and obey the ways of the devil.
God says we cannot drink from the cup of the LORD God and the cup of devils. God says that we cannot live in sin and live for God. God says we cannot live unrighteous and serve Him. God says we are to live without sin in our lives. God says we are either sinful or sin free.
Only when we are separated from sin, we can serve God. If you are NOT separated away from sin, you cannot serve God.
God wants us to live in His righteousness and blessings, and to receive the righteousness of God, we must obtain His salvation, by grace through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9; Ephesians 2:8).
God loves us and wants us to be saved
The desire of God, the will of God is for ALL people in this world to obtain His salvation, because God loves us.
God wants all people to obtain His salvation. God wants us to live together with Him throughout eternity.
God wants us to have everlasting life. God does not want any person to perish, die without Him.
God wants to deliver us from this present evil world.
We are to follow Christ, live righteous
We should have the Mind and Heart and Attitude of Christ.
We are to be perfect like Christ.
To live is Christ, you are not ready to live, until you are ready to die to your sins, because to die is gain.
When we choose to die to sin, give up our sin, repent from our sin, and turn to God, accept His salvation, then and only then can we receive everlasting life, and begin to live.
To die is gain, because we receive eternal life, death is not loss, but gain. We gain life with our Lord, when we pass from this life to the next. Our physical bodies die, but we don't die. Believers receive a new life when we die, not death. Death has no hold on believers of Christ Jesus, because death had no hold on our Lord Jesus.
Because death had no hold on Christ, who rose from His grave to new life, WE TOO receive life after we die in our physical bodies by faith in Him. Death does not exist for believers, because we shall inherit the promise of God, eternal life with Him, we will pass from death to life. All believers pass from death in our earthly bodies to new life.
God promises all His faithful children to pass from death to life with Him.
The law of sin and death has no power over the faithful believers in Christ Jesus.
We are to conduct ourselves worthy of Christ.
Have you ever asked yourself, "what can I do for God" ? Do you desire to do things for God? Do you seek to please God?
Every believer should ask, "What can I give to my LORD for all His benefits toward me?".
We should never forget, the God of our salvation daily loads us up with so many wonderful benefits (Psalm 68:19; 103:2).
We are humanly, natural born, self-centered creatures. Ask anyone and they will give you a list of their desires, their wants, and their needs.
Many times we are so focused on what God can give to me, that we forget to ask, "what can I do for God?".
We pray to God for so many things, for healing, for deliverance, for love, for comfort, for salvation, the list goes on and on. We know what we want, but do we ask ourselves what does God want?
Do you even know the desires of God's heart? Do you know what pleases God? What can I give my God who I love so much?
God tells everyone exactly what He desires, what He expects. what pleases Him, and what He wants from each of us in His Word. Yes, the desires of God's heart is written down for us all in His Word.
Through reading the Holy Scriptures, we know that:
What can I do for God? What does God desire from me?
God desires to take you where He created you to be (which is with Him for all eternity).
Let's look at what the written word of God tells us about the desires of our God.
God is love. God gives us love and God desires love, our love. God wants us to desire Him, love Him above all else.
God not only desires that we love Him, but also God desires that His children walk in love, loving others as we love ourselves (Ephesians 5:2; 1 John 4:20).
God showed His love for us, when He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ to be the ultimate final sacrifice for all our sins (1 John 4:10), so that we, through faith in Jesus could obtain salvation, which is the only way to be with God (John 14:6).
God is love (1 John 4:8,16). God loved us before we loved Him (1 John 4:19). The love that God gives to us is to be given back to Him by loving His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ (John 8:42; 14:23).
Please note, the Scriptures do NOT say that "love is God", but says "God is love", there is a difference, nothing is to be placed before God, not even love. There is only One God, none else.
God loves all the people of the world, and the will of God is for all people to receive eternal life, obtain salvation, so that we can all live with Him in His Kingdom for all eternity.
All people are appointed by God to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. God personally calls every person to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. Have you answered YES to His call to receive the gift of salvation? Take the cup of salvation, call upon the name of the LORD and be saved today.
God's desire is NOT to give us His wrath, God does NOT want any person to perish, to be cut off from Him, separated from Him for all eternity, but God wants all the people of this world to obtain His salvation through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:9).
Only through faith in Jesus Christ can anyone be reconciled to God the Father (Romans 5:10). Only through faith in Jesus can we become the children of God.
We only receive the salvation of God through the knowledge of the truth of God (1 Timothy 2:4), we must believe the truth of God that He is God and He is all that He says that He is in His Word (Hebrews 11:6), we must believe in One God who is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19; 1 John 5:7), we must believe that God is able and will save us from sin and death, in order to receive His gift of Salvation.
God's perfect plan of salvation is by His grace through faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26).
We must believe all God says about His Son to be saved (1 John 5:10).
We must believe God sent Jesus to earth from Heaven (John 6:38), to be the final sacrifice for all sin, we must believe Jesus shed His blood on His cross so that our sins might be forgiven, that Jesus was buried in a grave but rose from His grave three days later, saw, met and talked with people after His resurrection, and ascended to God the Father in Heaven, sits on the right hand of God the Father (Hebrews 10:12), and will return to earth one day for all people who believe in Him (John 14:2-3), to take us with Him to the Kingdom of God to live forever with our Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
God desires truth (Psalm 51:6). God desires that His children live in truth (2 John 1:4). Truth is paramount with God (Psalm 15:1-2). Truth is the foundation of God (Psalm 33:4; 132:11; Isaiah 25:1). The character of God is truth (Psalm 25:10). God is truth and God's word is truth (Psalm 119:151; John 3:33). As believers we must stand firm on a foundation built on truth, the truth of God, every day of our lives.
Nothing should be greater than God and living in truth. Nothing should ever compromise truth in our lives (1 John 2:21). As with all sin, faithful believers of Christ are to put away lying and speak the truth to everyone, no matter what the circumstances. God gives NO exemptions from living in truth.
God does not lie. God commands, "Do not lie" (Exodus 20:16). Lying is sin against God. When we lie we are departing from God, lying separates anyone from God (Isaiah 59:13).
Lies and liars are the enemy of God, because the devil is the father of all lies (John 8:44). We either live in alignment with God, or in alignment (apart from) without God. No one can be with God and continually practice lying.
As children of the Most High God, we are to depart from all sin, run from sin, avoid sin at all costs.
Do NOT be deceived, lying is a serious sin against God. God promises that liars will face His wrath, eternal damnation, eternal separation from God (Revelation 21:8). You must repent from all lying to abide in Christ.
God calls satan the father of lies (John 8:44). Because satan is the father of lies, ALL lies are attached to satan himself, sin attaches us to satan, we are not to be attached to satan in any way, for any reason, no excuses.
DO NOT BE DECEIVED, when you lie, you choose to disobey God, you choose to attach yourself with satan.
Lying is your choice. God has all the power. The devil cannot force anyone to sin, the devil does not have the power to force you to lie, you lie by your own choice. Please don't choose the pleasures of a season, temporary sin, over eternity with God.
The devil has limited powers, the devil can only tempt you with sin, the devil cannot make anyone sin, because the devil does NOT have power to force you to sin. Sin is committed when we yield to temptation, we sin when we yield to - give in - to the temptation to sin, which is always presented by the devil, not by God (James 1:13).
God never excuses lying for any reason, no matter what the circumstances. Lying is serious with God and therefore, should be very serious to us.
God calls all liars an abomination to Him. Liars are the enemy of God.
But they that deal truly are His delight! Do you want to delight God? then live in truth. The very fact that truth delights God, should be reason enough for us to live in truth. I want to delight God, I want to please God, I want to live in truth!
We are to hate what God hates, and love what God loves. We are to hate lying, as God does, and have no part of lies or deceit in any way, for any reason, no matter what the circumstances.
We are not to lie for any reason: not for a joke, not for business, not for play, not to save us from embarrassment, not for our children, not for our career, not for love, not for money, not for fame, not for our spouse, not for our church, not to make someone feel good, not because everyone else does, not for school, not for work, not even to save our life, we are not to lie for any reason, for any circumstances, no exceptions. (Psalm 119:163; Proverbs 13:5).
Truth, truth, truth, walk it, live it, speak it, think it, be it!
We are to walk in truth (Psalm 86:11), live in truth, speak truth (Proverbs 8:7), think truth (Philippians 4:8), for all the days of our lives, no matter what the circumstances.
To be a faithful witness for God we will NOT lie.
We are commanded by God to enclose our lives in truth (Ephesians 4:25). We either forsake lying or we forsake truth (Jonah 2:8). We either stand with God in truth, or stand with satan in deceit. God says that no one can have it both ways, we cannot lie and tell the truth, you cannot lie and be with the God of truth (1 Corinthians 10:21).
Remember, there are no lies in truth, and no truth in lies. A partial lie is still a lie. Part lie and part truth is still a lie.
Remember, God never gives us a command without giving us the grace to perform it. In every temptation that we will ever face, God promises that He has made a way for us to escape it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
When we come to the knowledge of the truth of God, only then we can receive the salvation of God (John 14:17; 1 John 4:6; 2 Thessalonians 2:13). God is truth, the God of truth (Deuteronomy 32:4), and truth is of God (1 John 2:27; 5:6). The word of God is truth (John 17:17; James 1:18). God desires we enclose ourselves in truth, and not only in salvation truth (Psalm 69:13), but truth in every aspect of our lives, for all the days of our lives.
Truth is not an option with God (John 4:24). Truth will live forever, but lying and all people who place their trust in lies, who attach themselves to lies will perish with the lies (Psalm 117:2; Proverbs 12:19; Revelation 21:8).
Do what ever it takes to remain in truth. Do not lie for any reason at any time.
Commit yourself today to God, commit yourself to truth, commit your life to living in truth, because you love God with all your heart!
I choose the way of truth (Psalm 119:30).
Pray to God for forgiveness of your lying, repent of lying, and ask God for His help in making you a champion of His truth.
Prayer of repentance for lying:
If you prayed to God from your heart, asking Him to forgive you for lying, sincerely repent from lying, and ask Him to help you live, walk, and remain in the truth, then you can be assured that He will do it, because God delivers on all His promises.
Forgiveness of sin and help to overcome sin is available to all people who ask God through a sincere heart.
God desires faithful witnesses (Proverbs 14:5). This desire of God here is twofold; one, we are to forever remain faithful; and two, we are to be a witness forever for Christ (2 Corinthians 11:10).
We are to be faithful witnesses, because Jesus is the faithful witness, and we are His followers (Revelation 1:5-6).
There are many witnesses, but not all are faithful witnesses. Not all witnesses are of God and of His truth. Not all witness are faithful to the doctrine of Christ. Not all witnesses follow the ways of Christ. Not all witnesses serve God.
God says that a faithful witness will not lie (Proverbs 14:5). We know that a faithful witness is the opposite of a false witness. A false witness is a liar and stirs up strife (Proverbs 6:19). A false witness will be punished and will perish (Proverbs 19:5, 9, 21:28).
The Lord calls Himself a true and faithful witness (Jeremiah 42:5) and Jesus Christ the faithful witness (Revelation 1:5), when we are saved by grace through faith we become the witnesses of God. By remaining faithful to God, we become faithful witnesses of God.
As believers, we are to remain faithful witnesses all the days of our lives, because we love God.
God desires that we remain faithful to Him all the days of our life (Matthew 24:13).
Do not be deceived, the faithless, those without faith, the unfaithful, the unbelieving will not spend eternity with God (Mark 16:16).
Salvation is not a temporary state (2 Timothy 2:10). My salvation shall be forever (Isaiah 51:6). Salvation is not a one day commitment to God, but salvation is an life long, an eternal commitment to Christ.
Salvation is a lifetime journey to God by faith (Lamentations 3:26; Philippians 2:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:8; 1 Peter 1:9).
God tells us in His word that the just will live by faith. Faithful believers of Christ live by faith every day of their lives. Salvation is a covenant with God to remain with Him, near Him, and in Him all the days of our lives.
Believers are witnesses of Christ to the people around us every single day. Non-believers are watching believers every day, in everything we do and everything we say. Non-believers are watching to see how believers react to life around them.
How believers live out their lives is a reflection of Christ, because as faithful witnesses, we have Christ abiding in us. As believers of the Most High God, we are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), always and in everything representing God.
God desires servants of His word to share His love gift to the world. We are not to just know God's word, but we are to DO God's word every day (Luke 8:21), go out into this world and share His testimony, share His love, proclaim His gospel that leads all men to Him.
God wants others to see Christ in us, that in seeing our joy in Christ, that they might come to the knowledge of the truth that is in Christ, which is obtaining salvation through faith (1 Peter 3:15).
We are to be a light in this dark world. Our light, given to all believers by Christ, is to shine as a beacon calling others by faith to God.
We are to declare God's faithfulness and His salvation (Psalm 40:10).
God does not want people who say they are believers, but God wants believers who show that they have everlasting life, possessing unmovable faith in Christ Jesus.
God says that we who preach His word should live His word, "Live of the gospel". Do you live the gospel? God wants children who live His word, not just say they do. Saying is not doing.
God desires fellowship with us, closeness, to be near to all His children. We love God and should desire to be close to Him every day.
We should desire a heart close to God. We must purposefully seek fellowship with God, because we love God and desire to spend time with Him, loving Him, knowing Him, listening to Him.
God desires that we seek Him first every day of our lives. God wants to be the first one that we come to with our joy, with our sorrow, with our needs, with our plans, with our praise, with our pain, and with everything that concerns our lives (Psalm 38:9).
God promises us that when we seek Him, we will find Him. God is waiting on us every single day, every minute of our day to seek Him and to find Him. I desire to seek the Lord (Isaiah 26:9).
God not only desires to be our loving Father, but our best friend.
Fellowship with God is not just talking the talk, it is walking the walk, by living in faith every day to God, by walking in the righteousness of God every day of our lives. Speaking like Christ speaks, and living in the ways of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 5:1-10).
Our fellowship is to be with God the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3).
Who are you friends with? Who do you fellowship with? Who do you talk with, hang out with, listen to?
We are to guard our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls against evil. We are to depart from evil. We are never to compromise with evil in any way. We are not to make friendships with evil people, with wickedness, with workers of iniquity. Why not? Because God says that when we join workers of iniquity, we become partakers in their sins. God says fellowship, hanging out with people who sin, that we become partakers in their sins.
The word of God reads that we are not to have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, devils, satan (Ephesians 5:11).
Depart from sin
God desires that we depart from sin. There is no sin with God (2 Chronicles 19:7). God does not live where sin is. God is life and goodness, and following evil, unrighteousness, and sin only leads to death. God hates evil, and so must we. We cannot receive the salvation of God unless we repent of sin, forsake sin, abandon sin, turn from darkness to Light, turn from the ways of sin to the ways of God.
The desire of God is for all of us to abstain from fornication (1 Thessalonians 4:3), depart from evil, run away from sin as fast as we can, abstain from all appearance of evil, do not go along with evil, do not be around evil, do not watch evil, at all costs.
God says that He knows who are His, and whoever calls themselves a Christian, a believer of God, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19).
Workers of iniquity, all who live for sin, all who live in sin day in and day out, all who plan sin, all who participate willfully in sin, all who pursue sin, all who willfully sin against God will never see God (Matthew 7:23; 25:41; Luke 13:27).
When we sin, we sin against God, not just ourselves. We know through scripture that all unrighteousness is sin (1 John 5:17) and the wages of all sin is death (Romans 6:23), this fact alone should keep us from sin, but God wants us to depart from sin for another reason, and that reason is because we love Him and therefore desire to follow His ways.
We show our love to God by our obedience to His righteousness, and by not serving the devil. Yes, sin is serving satan in the most basic form (2 Peter 2:19). When we sin we are having fellowship with devils (1 Corinthians 10:20). When we sin, we are NOT having fellowship with God (1 John 1:6). Do NOT be deceived, God says that we cannot serve Him and also serve sin (1 Corinthians 10:21).
The word of God reads that we are NOT to have fellowship with darkness of any type, the unfruitful works of darkness, devils, satan (Ephesians 5:11). We are not to join our God, who lives inside of us, to any type of evil, wickedness, sin, filthiness, iniquity, in any way. As faithful believers of God we are not to participate in the sins of others (Ephesians 5:6-7; 1 Timothy 5:22; 2 John 1:9-11; Revelation 18:4). Do not be deceived, all sin is sin and God says that viewing sin is the same as participating in the exact same sin (1 Corinthians 6:9; 15;33; Galatians 6:7). We are to especially avoid the appearance of any kind of sin (1 Thessalonians 5:22).
Our fellowship is to be with God the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3).
Avoiding sin at all costs should be one of our highest priorities as faithful believers of God (Romans 12:21). The truth of God is in His righteousness (Ephesians 5:9). We must never compromise with sin. We must walk in the light of Christ, because He is the only one who can cleanse us by His blood of all our sins (1 John 1:7).
Fellowship with God is not just talking the talk, it is walking the walk, by living in faith, by walking in the righteousness of God every day of our lives. Speaking like Christ speaks, and living in the ways of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 5:1-10). The words of faith are important to God, but without walking in the faith, we are truly lost.
How can we depart from evil, stay away from sin? All believers depart from sin, stay away from sin, the exact same way. God gave us all His formula to overcome sin in our lives. God says that when we submit ourselves to Him, and resist the devil, that the devil will flee from us (James 4:7). All of Gods promises are true, God promises all His children that when we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, God promises that the devil will flee from us.
No one can defeat satan by themselves, everyone needs the power of Christ to defeat satan. This is why Jesus came down from Heaven to earth in the first place, to defeat and destroy the devil and all the devil's works, and all the devil's power over mankind (1 John 3:8).
God gives us full instruction in His word how to overcome evil in this world, by putting on Christ, by putting on the full armor of God, and writing His word in our hearts.
To defeat and overcome sin we must put on Christ, which is the power of God, through faith and accepting the salvation of God (1 Corinthians 1:24; 1 John 5:4).
To defeat and overcome sin, we must daily put on the full armor of God to defeat evil and the devil (Ephesians 6:13-17).
We must be submerged in the Word of God to overcome sin. We must know and live the word of God to overcome sin and death (Hebrews 4:12). We must overcome sin to inherit eternal life (Revelation 2:7,11, 3:5,21; 21:7). The believer's fight of good over evil, overcoming sin in this world, does not end until we receive the salvation of our souls at the end of our faith, in Heaven with our King Eternal (1 Peter 1:9).
As believers of the Most High God, we are not weak, we are not powerless over sin. God says that we can overcome sin, we can overcome this world because He overcame this world (John 16:33), and greater is God who is in us, than satan who is in this world (1 John 4:4). God's power has and will always trump satan's power.
Through faith in Christ Jesus we can overcome sin in our lives and receive the prize, Jesus Christ, eternal life (Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:14; 4:4; 5:4-5; Revelation 12:11; Philippians 3:7-14).
God desires our blessings. God wants us to bless Him.
I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth (Psalm 34:1).
Bless the LORD, o my soul: and all that is within me, bless His Holy name (Psalm 103:1).
When we think of blessings, we generally think of God's blessings to us, not of us blessing God, but blessing God is part of worship.
Our sacrifice today is of blessing and praise to God from our hearts.
We are to magnify God, bless God for His wondrous works, for all He has given to us, and for all that He is.
Share His wondrous works
God desires us to sing about His wondrous works. We are to sing (1 Corinthians 16:9), talk (1 Corinthians 16:9; Psalm 105:2; Psalm 119:27), consider (Job 37:14), know (Job 37:16), believe (Psalm 78:32), speak (Psalm 145:5), behold (Psalm 119:18), tell (Psalm 26:7), praise (Psalm 107:8), publish (Psalm 26:7), and declare (Psalm 71:17) to everyone God's most wondrous works.
Many are the wondrous works of God (Psalm 40:5). The wondrous works of God are not just in the Holy Bible, they are all around us and happen every day, today in our lives. God is alive and performs only wondrous works every day (Psalm 72:18; 86:10).
We are not to hide them from our children (Psalm 78:4). Daily we are to praise our God for His wonderful works (Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31) and never forget them. God made His wonderful works to be remembered (Psalm 111:4). The works of the Lord are great (Psalm 111:2).
We are never to forget the wondrous works of God (Psalm 78:7). His wondrous works in the past, present and especially future, and share them with everyone we meet.
Place God first
God desires that we desire to place Him first in everything in our lives. God does not want us to place Him first so that others will see our good works, or think we are good (Ephesians 6:6), but because we whole heartedly desire to place Him first in our lives, out of our genuine heartfelt love for Him, because we love Him most.
God desires to be our only God. God desires that He be placed before all people and all things in our lives.
Everything we know of and think we have in this world will disappear one day. Our houses, our cars, our jobs, our computers, our phones, the buildings, the highways, the restaurants, the malls, everything that we know of on this earth will not be in eternity. The only thing we have that will last throughout eternity is our God and our relationship that we have on this earth with our Lord God. God is my portion forever, not the things on this earth.
We can show God how much we love Him by placing Him first in our lives. We should never be too busy to think of God first, to place God first in our lives.
If we desire God, love God the most, as much as we say that we do, we would place Him first in our lives.
One of the devils favorite tools, is our busy schedule. The devil loves it when we are too wrapped up with the cares of this world to think about God. Don't let things, push God out of your life.
When we place too much importance in our schedules of things to do, we are caught up with the cares of this world. The word of God reads that the cares of this world, choke His word and we become unfruitful (Mark 4:19).
God warns us to take heed that the cares of this life overcome you, and draw you away from God (Luke 21:34).
Only God can lead us to Heaven, we cannot get there and enter in by ourselves. We must follow Christ who has already made the journey to Heaven, and we must set God first in order to follow Him.
We follow who is in front of us, who we place first in our lives. God alone is to be first in our lives, nothing or no one else is to be set before Him.
The first and greatest commandment of God is to love Him with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our mind (Matthew 22:37-38). If we truly love God that way, we can't help but place Him first in our lives over everything and everyone.
God desires that we fear Him, and only Him, every day, because eternal life is attached to the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 19:23, 23:17). The fear of the Lord is a good thing.
The fear of God is not like the fear of this world that we see in horror movies. The fear of the Lord is beautiful and our treasure.
The fear of God is holy, reverent awe of God, believing and understanding the wonder and mighty power of the Almighty God.
The fear of God is knowing that He holds the universe in His hand and us in the other.
The fear of the Lord is believing that He is God, and that He is all that He says that He is in His word, Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The fear of the Lord is knowing that He alone is the Creator of all things, knowing that He lives, knowing that He loves us, and knowing that He wants us all to live with Him in His Paradise for all eternity.
The fear of the Lord is humble respect for God, love for Him, devotion to Him above all else.
The fear of the Lord is honor, glory, praise due only to the one true God, our worthy Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.
No one knows God without the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:29; 2:5). Knowledge of the truth of God begins with the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7).
No one can have wisdom and understanding of God without the fear of the Lord (Job 28:28; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 9:10, 15:33).
We do what God wants us to do, we do the will of God, through the fear of the Lord (2 Chronicles 19:7,9; Proverbs 8:13, 16:6).
The fear of the Lord is our foundation of eternal life (Psalm 19:9; Proverbs 14:27, 19:23, 22:4). We accept the salvation of God through the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 33:6).
No one perish
God desires that no person on this earth should perish and spend eternity separated from Him and His love.
Some people may ask, why hasn't Christ returned to earth as He has promised, what is His delay? Although we are not to question why God does anything, we do know for a fact that God doesn't want anyone to spend eternity without Him. His delay in coming is because He is not will that any should perish.
God desires that all people accept His free gift of salvation from sin and death, by faith through His Son Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8).
God desires that all people obtain eternal life, by believing Jesus, so that we all might receive everlasting life in His Kingdom of Heaven (John 3:36, 5:24, 6:40, 47).
Follow God's will
God desires that we follow His will. God wants us to desire what He desires.
As the children of God, we are to love the things that God loves. As the children of God we are to hate what God hates. As the children of God, we must replace our will with God's will.
We must ask God for the wisdom to discern His will, so that we can walk in His way and do His will.
The Lord's prayer reminds us to seek the will of God first, to place God's will above our will, "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven" (Matthew 6:10).
All the family of God follows the will of God. As the children of God, we are to do the will of God the Father (Matthew 12:50; Mark 3:35).
The will of God must be done, in order to receive the promises of God.
God promises that all people who do the will of God will enter in to the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 7:21).
Believers must not only hear the Word of God, but do the word of God, do God's will (Matthew 7:24).
Believers are equipped and able to do the will of God, because we have been born-again of the will of God, not born-again in the flesh and blood of the will of man (John 1:13; Philippians 2:13; Hebrews 13:21).
Doing the will of God enables us to know the truth of God, the true doctrine of God when it is taught (John 7:17), grants us an audience before the throne of God (John 9:31; 1 John 5:14), grants us permission to enter into God's rest, grants answers to all our prayers (John 14:13-14, 15:7; 1 John 2:17), grants us the blessings and honor of God the Father (John 12:26), gives us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, 26), gives us comfort (John 14:18), gives us the love of God Himself (John 14:21, 23), grants us inheritance to all the promises of God, makes known His will to His children (Ephesians 1:5, 9, 11), and gifts us the salvation of God, gives us eternal life (1 John 2:17), so that we can be with God, love God, for all eternity.
Nothing is received from God without abiding in the will of God. The only way to live is to live inside the will of God. We must understand and know and say, "the will of God be done", "if the Lord will we shall live, and do this or that". (Colossians 1:9; James 4:15)
Everything in Heaven is by the will of God, we must align ourselves with the will of God today, and remain in the will of God until we pass from this life, to obtain the promise, eternal life of God (Hebrews 10:36; James 1:17-18).
Believers are to prove the will of God, what is good, acceptable, the perfect will of God (Romans 12:2) to the world around us, so that we put to silence the ignorance of foolish men (1 Peter 2:15-16).
Believers are to be a light in this dark world, by example proving why the lost should want to abide in the will of God, why they need what we have, because they see God through us and in us, His love, His peace, His joy, making them want what we have in Christ Jesus.
In everything we do, we must do all things in the will of God, not our will, not someone else's will, not our family's will, and not the will of this evil, wicked world, but to the will of the Most High Jehovah God Almighty. We are to remain in the will of God all the days of our lives (1 Peter 4:2, 19).
Glory due His name
We are to exalt the name of the LORD (1 Chronicles 29:11; Psalm 18:46). There should not be a day that goes by in our lives that we do not honor the name of our Most High God.
God desires that we know Him. The whole purpose of mankind's creation was so that we could know God, that's why we were created.
Mankind was created out of love, God's love, because God is love. God created you and me, so that we could know God, and that God could know us, and so that God could love us and that we could love God.
The creation of man was out of love, and for the sake of love, God's love. Mankind was created for a different purpose than what mankind has become, hateful, selfish, unforgiving, uncaring, and unloving.
We must know God and God must know us, in order for us to enter into Heaven.
God knows us through salvation. When we profess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, when we accept His salvation by grace to eternal life through faith, we know God and God knows us.
Anyone who does not know God through salvation by faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, will not spend eternity with God in His Kingdom (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).
Sacrifices of Praise
God desires our praise.
God does not require animal sacrifices, these types of sin sacrifices were done away with the shed blood of Christ Jesus, but we can give sacrifices to God through our praise and worship of Him.
God desires our thanksgiving for all His wondrous works.
The miracles of God are taken for granted today, we forget to thank God for all His wondrous works. God's wondrous works are not just the miracles He performed in the Old Testament days, God performs miracles every day, all around us, every morning when, we wake up we should thank God for all His wondrous works.
Mediate on His word
God desires that we desire His Holy word. I desire the sincere milk of the word (1 Peter 2:2).
God wants us to learn His Words, mediate on His words day and night, write them on the fleshy tables of our hearts. God knows if we have His word in our heart, we have His power to overcome the world. We are to know God's word and keep His word forever (Psalm 119:44).
As the children of God we are to delight in God's word for they are the rejoicing of our hearts (Psalm 119:111), we are to stand in awe at God's wondrous word (Psalm 119:161), and are to treat God's word the same as we treat God, with great unending love.
The way we treat the Word of God is the way we treat the God of the Word.
We show God just how much we love Him through obedience to His word. God says that the measure of our love for Him is by our obedience to His word.
This world is temporary, everything we see in this world is temporary, our life on this earth is temporary, God says that our life is but a vapor, but the word of the Lord is settled in Heaven (Psalm 119:89), the word of God is living, and the word of God will live forever (Psalm 119:152).
Stand with Him
God desires that we stand with Him today, tomorrow and forever.
God does not want us to lean to our own understanding that will fail, God desires to help us every day of our life.
Standing with God is have God's view instead of our own view or the world's view of life. Standing with God is desiring what He desires, standing with goodness, righteousness and truth, loving what God loves and hating what God hates.
We are to love what God loves and hate what God hates. We are to desire what God desires.
Our greatest desire should be the same as God's greatest desire, for us to dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 27:4).
A faithful witness stands firm with God to the end (Hebrews 6:11).
God does not want us to stand alone in this world, but He wants to help us and guide us.
Learn from God
God desires that we learn wisdom and understanding from His Word. We learn how to live upright and righteous through His word. We learn everything required to carry out His commandments from God Himself.
Our spiritual learning is to come from God Himself, not from men. There are many great godly teachers in this world, but our soul is established with God's word, not man's words.
We are to seek the knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:9).
Be a servant
When we accept the gift of God, we become a servant of Christ. There is only one Master in the life of the believer, Jesus Christ. We must deny self, take up our cross daily and be a follower of the gospel of God all the days of our life, in order to be a disciple.
As a servant we are to serve others as we serve our Lord and Saviour.
I love the scriptures in Philemon, where Paul defines himself as a prisoner of Jesus Christ, what beautiful language. As true believers of Christ we too are willing prisoners of Jesus. As Paul, we are a servant of Jesus Christ and separated to the gospel of God (Romans 1:1).
Humility is a character to embrace and possess. Without godly humility we are unable to be a good servant of Christ.
Jesus was the perfect example of humility and servitude, when He washed the feet of His apostles, before He was crucified.
The word of God tells us all who we are to serve, what we are to serve. We are to serve the one true living God. We are to be the servants of Christ Jesus.
We were once as the lost, servants of sin, but since salvation we become the servants of God (Romans 6:16-18). We become the servants of righteousness when we receive salvation (Romans 6:18). Believers yield themselves to righteousness, not to iniquity (Romans 6:19).
We must never forget our place, because when we do we bring trouble into our lives.
God wants to complete us
God desires to be our only one true living God. God desires that we depend on Him for everything. By placing our complete trust in God, believing that God is all who He says that He is, He can and will complete us, finish His work in us.
Our completion is when we receive our crown of life at the end of our faith and the salvation of our souls (1 Peter 1:9; James 1:12).
God desires us to be where He created us to be, which is with Him, in His Kingdom, for eternity.
Live with Him forever
The desire of God is that all people live with Him forever.
The purpose of our life, given to us by God, is to be with God for all eternity. God made each of us for His own good pleasure, to glorify Him, to be near Him, to know Him, to live with Him forever. Our eternal destination is our choice alone. God does not force anyone to be with Him. By accepting His free gift of salvation, we can spend eternity with God.
God does not want any person on this earth to perish, to die without Him. God desires all people everywhere to live with Him in His Kingdom for all eternity. God does not want any person to be separated from Him for eternity.
All people who do the will of God by obtaining His salvation through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, will live forever with God in the Paradise of Heaven (1 Thessalonians 5:9; Revelation 2:7; Matthew 3:17; 5:16; 12:50; 23:9).
As He promised, when Christ Jesus returns to earth for His own, we will be caught up together with all the saints to meet the Lord in the air, AND so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Only the faithful will spend eternity with God, the unbelieving will be separated from God for eternity. Unbelief separates anyone from eternity with God (Hebrews 3:19).
This earthly home is only temporary (Hebrews 13:14), our conversation is in Heaven (Philippians 3:20), the believer's true home is in Heaven with our King of kings, in a city prepared for us by God Himself (Hebrews 11:16).
So what does God want from me? God desires that I love Him with all my being, obtain His salvation from sin and death, desire and pursue truth in all things, remain a faithful witness of God for all the days of my live, seek His fellowship daily, genuinely bless God for all His wondrous works, no matter the circumstances always place God first and set Him before all things in my life, fear the Lord God, depart from sin and all appearance of evil, know Him personally, give glory due His name, offer God sacrifices of praise, pray with thanksgiving to my Lord and Saviour, desire and mediate on His Holy word every day, learn from God, stand with God, allow God to complete His work in me, and live forever with Him.
Now we know the desires that God has of us, as believers who love the Lord with all our heart, we should pursue and focus on the things that please Him. As Jesus did, we should always do those things that please our Heavenly Father (John 8:29).
All the desires of God have something in common...
Unlike our desires, which generally only benefit ourselves, God's desires are not self-serving.
The things that God desires from us are all for our benefit. God rewards all people who do what He wants, who fervently seek Him, and who earnestly pursue the desires of God's heart.
God desires to give us the desires of our hearts.
All the desires of God's heart is for our benefit:
The benefits of loving God are without measure, they are endless. God gives us so many promises for our love, His love, peace, health, happiness, joy, comfort, deliverance, preservation, and life.
The desire of God for all of us is to obtain salvation, so that we can live for eternity with Him in the Kingdom of God.
Through salvation we receive everlasting life with Almighty God for ever.
The truth of God will make you free. Free from sin and the after effects of sin, which is death and eternal separation from God.
The knowledge of truth is required to receive God's salvation (1 Timothy 2:4). By living in truth, we are able to approach the throne of God, seek Him, have fellowship with Him, and live forever with Him.
The benefits of truth is God's protection, His fellowship, and eternal life.
The faithful witness is promised the salvation of our souls in the end (1 Peter 1:9). All people who place their faith in Christ Jesus for salvation will be saved (John 14:6; Acts 2:21). All people who endure until the end (Matthew 24:13), hold onto their faith (2 Timothy 1:13; Hebrews 3:6, 10:23; Revelation 2:25-26) until their soul departs at death (2 Corinthians 5:8), will inherit the Kingdom of God (Revelation 21:7).
The benefits of fearing God is always for our good, He will hear us and fulfill our desires, the blessings of God, we shall not want for anything, purging iniquity from our lives, depart from evil, happiness, and life.
Sin is attached to death; life is attached to righteousness. We must depart from sin to inherit the promises of God, everlasting life.
The benefits of departing from sin are endless. Some are having God hear us, God's protection and deliverance, peace, comfort, and life.
In no other book is salvation promised and given, only in doing the Holy Word of God.
Our direction on the path of righteous to salvation is learned from God. We must seek the wisdom and knowledge of God every day. No one on this planet knows God completely, because His ways are past fining out. No one can know God fully here on this earth. We are all students of God, learning something new from Him every day that we seek Him.
We stumble and fall, we are deceived and led away in error of the wicked when we stop growing in the knowledge of God (2 Peter 3:17-19).
Our completion is when we receive our crown of life at the end of our faith, and the salvation of our souls (1 Peter 1:9; James 1:12). We are not completed here on this earth, because we do not have our new bodies, that will be given to us when we pass from this life to new life, to be forever with our LORD God.
We are unable to be complete, whole, until we receive the end of our faith, which is the salvation of our souls in Heaven, with our new body, and we will be forever with our Lord.
Making the choice to accept the salvation of God and living in faith pleases God and benefits us, by granting us entrance into the Kingdom of God, which is eternal life.
God desires that we enclose ourselves in His truth, abide in His faith, and wrap our lives in His grace, that we bless God for all His wondrous works, that we praise and worship the one true living God, that we thank God and give Him all the glory due His name, that we desire His word, feast on His scripture, mediate on His word, write His word on the fleshy tables of our hearts, that we remain and abide in Him, stand with Him, all the desires of God's heart is for our benefit.
Everything that God commands of us, requires from us, desires of us, are all for our benefit.
God has the most perfect plan for our lives. God's plan for our lives is without error. If we follow God's plan, give God the desires of His heart, He can give us all things, He will give us eternal life.
All the desires of God's heart is for our benefit, so that we can come to the knowledge of the truth, so that we can understand the mystery He wants to show us, so that the veil is removed, so that He can give us wisdom, so that He can give us everlasting life, salvation from sin and death, to live forever in His Kingdom in the glory of God the Father and God the Son Jesus Christ forevermore.
God has the Book of the Living, were all the names of those who overcome this world, through salvation by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, and remaining in the faith until they pass from this life to the next.
There is a Book, the Book of Life, that holds all the names of all the saints of God, all the children of God, all people who have received God's gift of salvation and have overcome the world, which is the Book of the Living.
The Book of the Living holds all the names of all people who will live with God for all eternity in His Kingdom, who will reign with Christ, who will receive the salvation of their souls at the end of their faith.
All the servants of God, followers of Christ Jesus, disciples of Christ, apostles of God, fellow laborers (Philippians 4:3), the children of God, the saints, all faithful believers names are written in the Book of Life (Revelation 3:5, 17:8, 20:12, 15, 22:19), the Book of Life of the Lamb (Revelation 13:8), the Lamb's Book of Life (Revelation 21:27), the Book of the Living (Psalm 69:28).
The gift of God is eternal life, the salvation of our souls, and given by God to all people who believe in His Son for their salvation.
If you receive the salvation of God, then your name is written in the Book of the Living, and if you overcome sin in this world through faith in Christ Jesus, your name will not be blotted out of the Book of Life, and when you die you will meet the LORD and be granted eternal life and entrance into eternity with God, because your name will be found written in His Book of Life.
